Why I use essential oils to release trapped emotions

The limbic system gathers information from the environment through sensory information. As you’ve experienced firsthand many times, your senses can alter your emotional state rapidly. For example, a pleasurable meal can make you feel comforted, and very loud noises can make you feel anxious.

Ever wonder why certain smells conjure up memories and even physical feelings so vividly? Our sense of smell is unique compared to our other senses (such as taste, sight and hearing) because it bypasses parts of the brain that other types of sensory information often cannot. Because of this, smells can often cause immediate and strong emotional reactions based on memories. Smells can bring us back to past events within milliseconds, making us feel a certain way based on past events, whether we realize why we’re suddenly feeling that way or not.

Essential oils, for example, can have dramatic effects on limbic function and how you feel. This is true because the strong fragrances they hold, which are found inside volatile molecules that can make their way into your bloodstream, travel directly through the blood/brain barrier very quickly.

  • The hippocampus is involved in olfaction (smelling). How so exactly? Aromatic molecules contained within essential oils interact with sensors in your nasal cavity, lungs, pores and more. Research shows that the olfactory bulb projects information into the ventral part of the hippocampus, and the hippocampus sends axons to the main olfactory bulb, (including the anterior olfactory nucleus and the primary olfactory cortex). This is how memories and smells become tied together.

  • How does Emotional Healing with Essential Oils release trapped emotions?

    Smelling the oil releases the pattern for the limbic system, thus providing direct asscess to the body's cellular memory. Eos through their fragrance and unique molecular structure, can directly stimulate the limbic lobe (the emotional control center) and the amygdala (stores, process and releases emotional trauma. It responds only to the sense of smell), thus exerting a profound effect on body and mind.

  • Will I need to undress?

    Only your shoes and socks will need to be removed, but wearing loose and comfortable clothing will be helpful, The EO's will be administered to the hands, feet, neck head and ears, there will be parts of the body that you will apply the EO yourself such as belly button, etc., as well as breathing in the EOs

  • What can you expect from an Emotional Healing session?

    People release in different ways, Some people may experience peace, other may release with crying, anger, sadness, or pain. When a negative emotion is felt, we should allow it to manifest, so it can be processed and eliminated. Many times our body "releases" at the subconscious level and we may not even be aware we are letting, however we may find we respond differently to situations that used to create stress. After a session, clients often report feeling relaxed, peaceful, and centered. It is not uncommon to have continued releases during the week following an Emotional Healing Session. Footwork First: I begin a Raindrop Therapy™ session with the bottoms of the feet since they are the most absorbent part of the body. Nine different Oils are applied to the bottoms of both feet along the “spine” of the foot using the Vita Flex technique. The Vita Flex technique allows the oils to fully penetrate the cells and promote healing, I also include some reflexology and warm bowls to the feet. Vibrational sound therapy is then used to help push the essential oils deep into the feet and up through the body. Next you will be asked to turn over with your head resting in the face cradle nine oils are applied to the spine using a feathering technique and then various other massage techniques that allow the spine to open up and receive the oils. Some of the techniques gently pull the tissue away from the spine creating space for the spine to move and realign as well as remove bacteria from the body. If any oil creates too much heat on sensitive skin, I immediately add massage oil to the skin to dilute the oil and the heat dissipates. Dry & Wet Towels: A dry towel is placed over the back and a hot wet towel is placed over the dry towel to create a moist compress. This moist heat will help the oils penetrate the body deeply and quickly. I monitor this process closely so the client stays comfortable. Usually the heat builds and peaks in about 8 minutes and then slowly dissipates but if the heat is too intense, the towel can be removed. With the warm towel in place I place Himalayan singing bowls to the spine creating a vibrational massage, again penetrating the essential oils deep into the body. You will then be asked to turn onto your back for some lymphatic pumping in the neck and warm towel infused with eucalyptus for the face.
